Position Summary
The Director Sales - OEM is responsible for strategy, tactics, people development, and individual leadership support need to promote Appareo’s products and services to original equipment manufacturers in off-highway industries (e.g. construction and agricultural machinery manufacturers). This role supervises a team of sales representatives and requires individual contribution to the analysis, proposal, and presentation work required to pursue, develop, and close manufacturer accounts. The Director Sales – OEM develops and maintains productive working relationships with leadership of OEMs and to ensure that sales objectives are achieved and to lead Appareo with high integrity through any challenging delivery or performance situations that may arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following

  • Lead a team of sales representatives on acquiring, growing, and maintaining accounts in extended and highly complex B2B sales processes
  • Lead sales planning activities to identify both key growth opportunities in existing accounts as well as high priority new accounts that fit Appareo’s profile for a successful customer
  • Establish tactics and strategy for the above
  • Lead sales representatives for their individual construction of sales plans associated with the above
  • Hold sales representatives accountable for execution and evolution, as needed, of sales plans
  • Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, and development of new team members with the OEM sales organization as well as related Appareo groups
  • Collaborate with leadership team in cultivation of forecasts and goals for current and future fiscal periods
  • Work closely with Product and Retrofit sales organizations to: Identify opportunities for transition of retrofit product to OEM accounts and position appropriately in OEM sales organization’s strategy and plans, and provide input information for creation of new, or modification of existing, product to create new opportunities with existing and prospective OEM accounts
  • Collaborate with marketing organization to develop, evolve, and execute the marketing plan supporting Appareo’s sales and strategic objectives, including:, information regarding key competitors tactics, organization, and strategy, provision of forecast information regarding existing accounts, provision of information regarding opportunity for growth with existing accounts, provision of information regarding identified key accounts targeted for acquisition and growth and provision of analytical information regarding market and customers to drive healthy dialog for optimizing marketing activity
  • Recommend pricing for proposals, both product development (non-recurring engineering and product fees) as well as product-only based business opportunities
  • Attendance of key trade shows and events, including collaboration for planning Appareo presence at said shows with Appareo Marketing as well as on-floor presentation of Appareo’s capabilities and products to prospective and existing customers
  • Assist with, or lead, presentation of product and/or engineering services offers to both prospective and existing customers
  • Coordinate and drive escalation meetings with internal and external stakeholders to resolve critical product performance or delivery issues impacting key accounts
  • Report to both sales team members and Appareo stakeholders at large regarding sales performance
  • Ensure utilization of customer relationship management software is appropriately instituted across all OEM sales personnel for all brands and lead evolution of the software’s utilization to suit the company’s purpose
  • Communicate with leadership on quality topics, as may be assigned to the sales organization through Appareo’s process audits, to muster organizational resources to respond to and resolve any issues related to Appareo’s consistent practice of key processes as a sales organization
  • This position is an on-site position due to face to face interaction with teams, clients, and other employees along with the use of on-site equipment.
  • Travel as required to attend customer meetings, industry events, conferences, and trade shows (up to 50% per year)

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of sales experience in B2B or complex channel based environments
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience managing sales professionals
  • Bachelors Degree in technical or scientific discipline
  • Experience selling highly technical products or solutions
  • Proactive, self-driven, and able to operate autonomously to drive results
  • Ability to express, formulate, and present technical information or concepts with clarity and effectiveness
  • Ability to speak and present to both individuals in formal corporate setting as well as larger audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Team player attitude with higher alignment to organizational mission than personal ambition
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to operate in highly entrepreneurial environment where change is persistent
